I love experimenting with my hair. On days when I don’t start my mornings with a bunch of emails and meetings, I take some time (read: at least an hour) to tame my tresses into perfect curls. Some days are just about quickly wielding the hot iron on my wavy hair and making a quick, messy bun that’s on point on a really bad hair day. Of course, there are days when I channelise my inner Bohemian diva and sport tight braids to work.
Yes, my hair goes through a lot of struggle, thanks to my mood swings and hairstyle hacks on the Internet.
However over the years I noticed there are some hairstyles that are secretly damaging the quality and volume of my hair. You know how it is, right? One day you see more hair on your comb and bathroom drain than on your head, and you realise something’s not okay. I came face to face with my hair nightmare and since I’m feeling slightly generous today, I am going to list out five common hairstyles that are damaging your hair without you even knowing.
1. The Everyday Ponytail
I love the sleek and high DeePee-inspired ponytail until I found out that it was secretly deteriorating my hair volume. Turns out, an everyday ponytail that otherwise doesn’t seem harmful, can actually be very harmful for your hair. As you pull your hair back, it puts stress and causes breakage, dullness and makes your hair look frayed.
2. Really, REALLY Straight Hair
I straighten my hair every other day. It’s simple, quick and honestly, looks good on me. Unfortunately, flat iron is not my hair’s best friend. Straightening hair on a regular basis makes your hair brittle, dry and eventually you also lose shine that you once so proudly flaunted.
3. Riri-Inspired Curls
My go-to party or date look is always about me getting those perfect, luscious curls. If I could I would wear them everyday and give Rihanna a run for her money. Actually, no. That’s impossible! On a serious note though, I realised curling that often was one of the biggest reasons of my hair breakage and I’m sure many of you may be facing the same thing too. Am I right?
4. Tight Braids
My mother used to tie my hair into tight braids when I was in school. I remember she would tell me braids were good for hair. Turns out, it really isn’t. Tight, waterfall and reverse braids put tremendous stress on the roots and may cause breakage. In fact, I noticed braids were somehow damaging my hair shape too.
5. The Sexy, Wet Look
This one’s the worst. There was a time I was extremely fond of the wet hair look and now I try and avoid it as much as I can. If you’re sporting the wet look regularly, you need to stop it right away. It causes breakage, hair loss, frizz and dryness, everything all at once!
But you know what, ladies? I still experiment with my hair and wear it the way I wish. The only thing I am smarter about is my regular hair regime that lets me skirt around the woes of hairstyling. Credit goes to BBLUNT Repair Remedy kit that has literally come to me as a blessing and saved me from those expensive salon sesh.
The Repair Remedy regime is like an awesome hair spa packed as shampoo, conditioner and leave-in hair cream packed with keratin and argan oil that makes my hair sleek, shiny, soft and smooth, from root to tip. I prep my hair with the RR shampoo and conditioner, and conclude it by applying the leave-in cream on my damp hair. I absolutely never miss the leave-in conditioner. I mean, would you leave your house without the sunscreen? Treat the leave-in cream as the sunscreen for your hair and use it everytime you step out of your home!
What’s more? I love the fact how the products extensively repair damages caused by heat styling, pollution and chemicals.
I am not compromising on my hairstyles anytime soon and, thankfully for me, BBLUNT Repair Remedy doesn’t let me!
