The love that Rohit Shetty has for Ranveer Singh is hard to hide. The two are often seen showing off their camaraderie in public. But it takes more than just bromance to cast an actor in a well-established franchise with its own fan base. It seems that Rohit Shetty weighed it all before casting Ranveer Singh in Simmba, the third in the Singham series, one of the director’s dearest projects.
In an interview, Rohit said, “Singham means a lion and Simmba means a lion cub.” Simmba takes off from where Singham, with Ajay Devgn leading the pack, ended.
The trailer of Simmba depicts the same sentiment. It starts off with visuals of Singham and Ajay Devgn introducing Ranveer Singh’s character in the film. Since Simmba comes from the Singham universe, Rohit needed an actor who could carry the legacy of Bajirao Singham forward. And who better than Ranveer Singh to do that!
We tell you why.
RANVEER’S BUILD AND PHYSIQUE MAKE HIM THE ULTIMATE BOLLYWOOD COP
Ranveer plays a corrupt cop who chooses to take up the righteous path after an incident. The actor is best suited to play the character since he has the right kind of physique to do justice to his role of a cop. Also, since the film has many action sequences, it needs the lead character to flex the occasional muscle, which Ranveer has aced in many of his films, including Padmaavat and Bajirao Mastani.
RANVEER HAS A CHARM THAT NO ONE CAN COMPETE WITH
Ajay Devgn left a mark with his performance in Singham and had an everlasting impression on the audience. Simmba needed an actor who could lend the same charisma to it and who better than Ranveer Singh to fulfill this requirement! Ranveer, the live wire of Bollywood, looks best suited for this role.
RANVEER BRINGS HIS BADASS SIDE FROM PADMAAVAT AND RAM-LEELA
Ranveer plays a corrupt cop in Simmba who undergoes a transformation after an incident. For Ranveer, who played Alauddin Khilji in just his last film Padmaavat, giving the audience a glimpse of his bad side was therefore a cakewalk. We saw a bit of that Ranveer in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela too.
RANVEER AND MASALA GO HAND-IN-HAND
Apart from being an ace actor, Ranveer Singh has a knack for masala films and he is quite the entertainer. Be it a Band Baaja Baarat or the more recent Befikre, Singh’s filmography has quite a few out-and-out masala films in it. For Simmba, from the Rohit Shetty school of flying Scorpios and over-the-top action sequences, Ranveer Singh was but a natural fit.
GUY FROM AAMCHI MUMBAI
In the trailer, it is seen that Ranveer carries the classic Maratha moustache, the hairstyle and Ray-Ban glasses. Born and brought up in Mumbai, Ranveer was best suited to give the required Maratha touch that Simmba needed.
But can Ranveer do an Ajay Devgn in Simmba? The film, which hits the screens tomorrow, will say.
